Black ChickPeas Masala (Kala Channa Masala)

Black chickpeas are rich in protein. It is a very common Indian dish. I like to serve this with rice or rotis. But it still tastes awesome to just eat it like that. Let see how to make the Kala Channa Masala.

Ingredients

Kala Channa - 1 cup (Soak it overnight)
Onion - 1 (chopped)
Tomato - 2 (chopped)
Cumin powder - 1 teaspoon
Fennel Powder - 1 teaspoon
Chilli Powder - 1 teaspoon
Cilantro - for garnish
Salt - to taste
Canola oil - 1 table spoon

For Tempering

Dry Red Chilli - 1
Mustard seeds - 1/4 tablespoon
Cumin seeds -1/4 tablespoon
Fenugreek seeds - 1/4 tablespoon
Fennel seeds - 1/4 tablespoon  
Urad dal - 1/4 tablespoon


Method
1. Soak the channa overnight. Pressure cook the channa and drain it and wash it and keep it aside.
2. In a hot pan add a tablespoon of canola oil and add the ingredients for tempering. Add the onions and saute for 5 minutes. Add the tomatoes and saute for another 10 minutes until it melts down to form like a masala.
3. Add the cumin powder, fennel powder and chilli powder and saute well for a minute.
4. Add the cooked channa and mix well. cook for another 10 minutes.
5. Garnish with cilantro and serve hot.
